ARTIST BIOS

Dania Malki

Dania Malki is a Syrian American artist born in Damascus and currently living in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She studied Fine Arts at California State University in Long Beach. Soon after she got interested in graphic design and worked in advertising, then in hospitality as a marketing and public relations director. All while keeping her art as an occasional hobby. But in 2012, she felt she was drifting too far from art, so she decided to leave the corporate world after 17 years and fully concentrate on pursuing her long-time passion in painting and painted her first oil since graduating from her Fine Arts program.

Inspiration mainly comes to Dania from unique architecture, particularly from old cities rich in history. A great influence being raised in the oldest city in the world and the daughter of an exceptional architect. Similarly, nature has a great influence in her art and gets greatly inspired by the outdoors. Her paintings are mainly in oil, acrylics, and watercolour. She is always switching between different mediums and feels that each one has it is own charm and mood. She loves textured backgrounds but enjoys the details in the focal subject.

• In 2018, she joined the American Women Network’s (AWN) Art Club, meeting weekly with fellow artists to paint and discovered a special bond with watercolour, captivated by the emerging of colours in water.
• In 2019 and being surrounded by it all her life, she started learning Islamic geometric patterns and fell in love with the precision and magnificence of the repetition of simple objects shaping into beautiful patterns.
• In 2020 she led the AWN Art Club, organizing and hosting local and international artists through art workshops held at the art studio in Al Marsam Al Hor at the Cultural Foundation.

Anna Ng

Anna is a Singaporean artist based in the United Arab Emirates. She is an abstract artist working with mixed media.

Art has always been in her life but it was only in 2018 when she picked up watercolours that the call to artmaking transformed and led her to her soul’s work. Art is how she connects to the universe as it bridges the physical and spiritual, allowing intuition and imagination to show her the way. She loves colours (colours heal!) and the spontaneity of abstracts as their imaginative possibilities are limitless. Anna’s works are vibrant and expressive.

Anna’s works have received international awards and been published. Biopak Australia featured her artwork on their biodegradable coffee cups and she was also commissioned by Lush UK to create a design for a gift box in 2022.
